Drama Workshop Take 4!

Room 4 had their 4th drama workshop today with Peter and Juliet.  We are very fortunate to have this opportunity to learn new skills in drama.  Please enjoy our photos and captions.
We wait in our "home" position and listen carefully to Peter.
We use a warm up game and walk around the room, smiling at another person, sometimes we don't look at the other person or we might look at them for a long time.
We are learning about the different status of characters - are they low or high status characters?
Peter read us a poem about bullying.  In groups of 5, we role-played characters from the poem.  Then we freeze-framed in that role.
Freeze-frame in role.
In-role in our character - freeze-frame.
We drew an outline of one of the main characters from the poem.  Then we had to write words to describe him.
Busy thinking of keywords to describe Billy, the bully.

Peter, the drama teacher, is "in-role" as Billy, we ask him questions to find out more about why he is the way he is.  We need to think about asking open-ended questions to find out more information about him.

Wednesday Drama Take 3

We had another great day learning drama skills.  We learnt new warm up games for our bodies and voices.  We learnt how to use our voice with expression. Juliet and Peter gave us some tongue twisters to say - this really warmed up our tongues and mouths.  Later we worked together using a script from the story The Pied Piper.  These skills will help us in our school production later in the term.

Warm up game - Guess what I do?  Watch me mine the actions …

In pairs, we gently sculpt our buddy into a position that has something to do with sport.
Topics to talk about.  Tough for Vaisiliva being in the middle who has to listen to both talking at the same time!

Listen to what I have to say …
Balancing skills.
More balancing practice.

Sculpting our buddy.  We lifted or touched our buddy very lightly.  They had to be still and cooperate.

Balancing using 3 types of position.
Peter, one of the drama teachers, teaches us some voice exercises in a group.

Drama Workshop Take 2

Room 4 had another fantastic half day working with Juliet and Peter, the drama teachers.  Today we used drama games to warm up, learnt how to stand confidently, used miming, role-play, hot-seating, created the sounds of a scene, created postcards and worked in groups to develop our communication and acting skills.

Drama Workshop with Juliet

Today our class began their drama workshop.  Each Wednesday we spend half of our school day with Juliet, the drama teacher, to learn about drama.
Room 4 students are warming up.  We practise our listening and concentrating skills.
We are learning about the different levels of where to perform - lower, middle and higher levels.
We have lots of fun as we learn about characterisation.
We freeze-frame while we are in role.  We need to think about what we do with our bodies and our facial expression.  This group have used the different levels (lower, middle and upper) on stage.
Freeze-frame … The audience can feel and see what the actors are communicating - what their message is.
Sadly our time has come to an end.  We "cool down".  We will be able to do it all over again next Wednesday …
