We have been learning about the cardiovascular system this week, with a focus on the heart. Each student has been researching a question about the heart. Here are some photos of us dissecting a lamb's heart. The lamb's heart has chambers and blood vessels that look like tubes. It looks like a human heart and is probably the same size as the children's hearts in room 4. It has a left and right ventricle chamber, and a left and right atrium chamber like a human heart.

Sammy confidently holds a lamb's heart in her hands. It feels heavier than we expected. |
Ruby enjoys learning about science. Her mum bought an extra 2 hearts for the class to dissect. |
Lilly and Dylan talk about what the heart looks like inside. It looks very meaty because it is a muscle. |
Marina uses a skewer to prod the heart. We could feel that one side was tough and the other side was spongy. |
Brooke and Megan are not sure about this activity at all. Despite this, they bravely examine the lamb's heart. |
We worked in our groups to examine the hearts. |
Anna and Leanne enjoyed this activity. They talk about what they have found. Joshua notices that this heart has a white fatty covering all over it. |
What a fantastic experience Rm 4...lucky people!
